Our Position
Our Position on Unions
There’s always room for growth. And we believe the best environment to cultivate positive change is one of mutual trust and respect — one that encourages direct and honest communication between team members at all levels. Unions tend to erode, not cultivate, this culture.
PSP culture benefits
team members more
than unionization.
FedEx Freight is built on the core idea that if you put people first, they’ll provide the highest possible service and profit will naturally follow. We call it PSP and it enables us to reinvest in our team members and our future. That’s why FedEx Freight prefers to operate without a union and will oppose unionization efforts by all legal means.
We strongly believe that unions not only hinder our ability to provide the service that our customers expect, but no union will ever provide a day’s work, a day’s pay, or any benefits for our team members. Only the company can provide those things and would have to agree to any changes proposed by the union.
Protecting the FedEx Freight
culture is just one of many
reasons FedEx Freight team
members choose not to join
a union.
FedEx has long been a target of the Teamsters’ union, and in 2014 and 2015, they filed for NLRB elections at 16 FedEx Freight service centers. Of those, they won four — East Philadelphia, PA; Charlotte, NC; South Brunswick, NJ; and Stockton, CA. These victories were mostly short-lived. After a year of bargaining, team members in Philadelphia and Charlotte voted the union out. In South Brunswick, the union walked away in the face of team member opposition.
Throughout the bargaining process, team members witnessed the union’s inability to make good on pre-election promises, but even more importantly, they began to understand the benefits of our unique PSP culture.
Stockton was closed for economic reasons after five years of bargaining an initial collective bargaining agreement.
